Two Stroke Oil Drip

I've got a 1995 Mariner 150 HP. I've noticed and oil drip coming from somewhere in the area between the actual motor and the section between the motor and the foot. I haven't been able to locate where it is actually coming from. Whats odd is that appears to be two stroke oil. The automatic oil mechanism has been removed and I mix Quicksilver 50:1. First question how can the oil reconstitute itself in the engine area after being premixed in the tank? Second question, where could it be coming from?

First, it can reconstitute by the gas evaporating and leaving the oil behind. Second it is more than likely coming from the carbs or a slight leak from the line. Clean it up really well run it for a bit and see if you can't find where it is coming from.

If you've been idleing the motor a lot or running it on the hose a lot, fuel/oil will build up in the exhaust chest. The fuel will eventually evaporate and the oil will eventually run down the exhaust tuner and finally make it's way out the lower unit. If often runs down the edge of the skeg and finally to the ground. A spot the size of a quarter after a few days of not running is not uncommon.

Re: Two Stroke Oil Drip

I've wiped out all excess oil from around the motor. The drip seems to be coming from the right side of the engine as you face it from the rear, (prop towards me). There is a hose that is connected to all three carbs and runs midway back through a device and seems to eventually go back into the heads at the top. The leak is around whatever the device is, (round about the size of a fifty cent peice). Is there some system that channels blow by oil to the heads/cylinders for burning it off? Also the amount of oil on the ground is about the size of a quarter in a weeks time engine tilt up or down either way.

Mike, can you post a picture of where you think the leak is starting on the engine?

I can but I'm not sure it's coming from where I described. I vacumed and cleaned out all suspected areas. I think what's happening is that when the motor is running the leak is there and when I put it in the garage the water seperates and the oil is left to find it's way out. Going to run it tommorow and we will know more. Thanks for the interest.

Be carefull using vacumm near gas. Bad things can happen, like fire.

some mercurys have small tubing running from the bottom bearing area to the top bearing area for oil that accumlates at the bottom,, some times this hose will crack espc at the top because of heat from sun and engine
