This is my first Yamaha OB motor (S150) and heard around that Yamaha OB should be run with their yamalube oil. I have used Merc, Penzoil Synthetic on my Rude with no problem. I also have a fresh gl of walmart brand(have never used it yet).
Should I stick with Yamaha oil or are the other brands with the TCW-3 rating as good?

Re: Two Stroke Oil

"as good"?? Don't really know.

Yamaha does not produce their oil. They buy it from a major maker and bump the price.

Any TC-W3 oil will work well enough that nobody can actually measure any difference in performance or longevity, though most claim secret ingredients that nobody else has.

Full synthetic TC-W3 oils all perform cleaner than fossil oils and minimize carbon buildup. Blends are somewhere between.

I have used WalMart's SuperTech TC-W3 oil for years with excellent results and saved enough bux to buy a whole boat full of musky lures.

Re: Two Stroke Oil

depends on the full model number.
if its a carburetted 150 most any TCW3 rated oil will most likly be fine.
if its EFI then use the yamalube.

Re: Two Stroke Oil

I switched my 90C Yamaha 2 stroke, carbed motor from Yamalube to the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic several years ago and the Synthetic burns a good bit cleaner, less smoke, very clean spark plugs. With the Ringfree, Stabil Marine and a fuel/water seperator the motor just runs like a top all the time, and I like it like that. Good Luck!
