In the final stages of bringing my 15'6" Bayrunner back to life. Getting close to the time for the battery purchase. I've read many posts on the best type of battery for specific applications and, for my application, it seems like I should get a starting battery.

The details: 30 hp, 1982 Mariner w/electric start and "Lighting Coil" (which, if it works, will apparently put some charge on a battery at about 1/2 throttle and above). The motor also has pull start, which operates reasonably easy, although at 70 I only have a limited number of even easy pull starts left in me. Minimum electrical/electronic components will be on board. For sure a fish finder and running lights. Maybe later I'll treat myself to one of those slick chart plotter/gps devices. But, that will be it. No stereo, flood lights, bait pump, TV, etc.

So, I'm thinking a starting battery will best suit my needs. Do I have it right?

Absolutely, Marine Starting battery.
The smallest one out there will start your motor with ease.
