u-Joint Lubrication

I recently greased the u-jonts on my 165 Mercruiser. When I did, I only saw grease ooze out of 1 of the 4 corners on each u-joint. Is this normal? Or should I see graese come out of aLL 4 corners?

It should come out of all of them.What kind od condition are they in,you may be able to unload a can of brakleen on them and clean them up and then try the grease again. Charlie

They don't appear to be in bad condition, no rust or corrosion. What is "brakleen"?

Brake parts cleaner.It gets all the old grease and crap out so you can start fresh.Concentrate on the ones that are not oozing. Charlie

I was thinking that because the grease was coming out of the one corner, there wasn't enough pressure to come out the other sides.

Grease should come out ,if it does not it is clogged. Charlie

the drive must be off the boat and the fittings will be plain to see within the ujoints.Charlie

FreeBeeTony,<br /><br />The way U-joints are treated is, Grease Must exit All 4 corners.... If 1 Doesn't, Squarely, Firmly, Rap the Opposite corner that IS loosing grease... Apply more pumps..If it works.. Great.. If not, Do it Again.... Continue till you get grease out All 4 corners..... <br />If this procedure Doesn't work... Replacement is the Next Step.....<br /><br />BTW, Your greasegun exerts about 2000psi.... You've got Plenty of Pressure.......
