Hello all I have just finished installing new bellows and shift cable along with a new gimbal bearing. Got the drive back on after some problems there. Turned out the gimbal bearing needed to be adjusted. Anyway I took it out and water tested it and found that on hard left or right turns it was knocking at about the same speed as the engine RPMs. Only turned sharp enough to cause the condition when I was going very slow for docking. After research here I found this to be a tell tale sign of ujoints failing. The engine alignment was good but I will definately recheck it when I repull the drive. After reviewing the manual I found that it calls for removing the entire U-joint assembly from the dive shaft housing. It seems to me that you could simply pull them while they are still attached to the outdrive. Any thoughts or experiance doing it that way? Any help would be Greatly Appreciated.
I forgot this is a 1992 Alpha One Gen II out drive attached to a Mercruiser 4.3LX
