I am replacing the U-Joints on my outdrive. From my previous tread I asked if automotive U-Joints would work and was told yes and given some part numbers. I went to CARQUEST gave them the numbers and they cross referenced with 1-6300 (Carquest brand) They also measured the old ones and they are very close to the new ones. I said all of that to say the inside clips wont clip, just not enough room. I mean just barely. I thought that maybe I bent the yoke getting them out but, it is the same on all side. Is this some sort of special marine U- Joint that I need to get somewhere on line.

The tolerances in this area are very tight.... Close is not good enough, they need to be EXACTLY the same....

I pressed them out and they came out very easy. I say they were close... we are talking hundreds of a inch between the old and new u-joints.

I have one of the caps in and clipped I am scared to push too hard to make the other one go in far enough to clip it for fear of bending the yoke... It also looks like tee is off centered. I was very careful to make sure all the bearings were lined up...Maybe on fell and is in the bottom of the cap

Did your old ujoints have inside or outside keepers? Can't get that info by looking at serial number.

To answer your question Don S., I have inside keepers.
