Hi all,

Having problems with the search part of the forum so please bare with me.

I have got the evinrude motor started that i had purchased with the boat 3 years ago, but it will start on the key without the lanyard in place and will not shut of with the key.

I have followed all of steps in the manual regarding the igintion barrel and replaced the original one with a replacement one, tested as per the steps in the manual and all ok.
I did replace the original kill switch as this was constant open circuit (button depressed/open) so i think that problem has been eliminated also.
The motor and controls were original with boat and all fitted the engine is a remote start with the prewired remotes.

Sorrry forgot to add from the original oem manual i appear to have a 30hp "R" model with ac, no model number on the transom bracket so cant help with that one and after speaking to the "Rude" dealer the powerhead core plug numbers dont tally with anything he has come accross.

Not had chance to change or test the starter solinoid could this be at fault???.

Disconnect the black-yellow wire at the power pac. Touch the wire from the power pac to ground. This should kill the motor, if not, the pac is at fault.

Many thanks for the reply,

When you say powerpack do you mean from the stator out ??? or from the charge / rectifier side.

I have 2 possible black yellow's

1 x comes in on the ignition side all the way through and heads towards the stator area.

1 x is linked very close to the coils and seems to come from the stator area and has a plug on it connecting to another blackyellow

Many thanks

The wire from the power pac, this is what kill's the ignition. The power pac is on the side of the engine. The stator is under the flywheel.

What year motor and does it have hydro-electric shift? If so, there is a blocking diode in the control box that, if it fails, can cause the motor to not turn off with the key.

This plug ???

Only black and yellow plug from power pack and sits in a stainless clip and is an emphonal type connector beside/between the coils.

Unsure of yeabut is in the range of 1988 > 1999 looked through the manual no mention of hydro electrical shift.

Where abouts is the diode and can be changed or is it powerpack, i did purchase another engine for bits and pieces so far it has paid for itself with prop and starter, it has the same pack etc but has cdi ignition where as the one that wont shutoff has not.

Your power pack should resemble the one below, and should be on the starboard side (right) of the motor near the coils.

The red arrow is pointing to the position of the black/yellow wire.

It takes a special tool to push out the pin on this connector. Simply push a unfolded paper clip into the black-yellow pin socket, and touch to ground.

Well,

Having searched for the powerpack, which i dont have i did find that the amphenol connector was broken and corroded, i will change this for something more sutiable than a bullet connector and give it a try later in the week.

After tracing the black/yellow connector it comes from the prewired controls into the powerhead > to amphenol connector> into stator area.

Many thanks for the help guys will keep you all posted.
