so i have a old tri hull thats been gutted with a 20 hp suzuki. i use it only for fishing and it does ok with just me on it but i have to load everthing infront and it takes awhile to get on plane but once it does it runs good. if i have a buddy with me thers no way it will get on plane. question is this will a hydrofoil help me any?

You don't give us any size of boat or weight so a recommendation would be a guessing game. However Tri-Hulls are traditionally heavy and I am surprised that 20HP is planing out even with one person aboard.
Bottom line is you need a bigger motor to get the performance you need.
Guideline is to have at least 70% of the maximum rated HP for your particular hull to get reasonable performance.
