Unknow device on back of Glastron Sportster XL

Not sure what this is or what it's for. Working on my 1978 Glastron Sportster XL today and saw it. This is on the back end of boat, bottom right side. The black tube is Not connected to just a bad pic. Anybody know what this may be, thanks. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Called a pitot for the speedometer. The black hose goes up the dash and connects to the back of the speedo.

It looks like the hose connector on the white piece is broken.

Thanks so much, that at least gets me started in the right direction but I will mess with that later just trying to get my motor running right now.

Yup, it's the speedo tube.

Broken it will probably work as well as it did was when it was new.

Brand new, right out of the box, a pitot tube speedo will give +- 1.0 MPH. Two problems.

First of all, its simply a pressure gauge calibrated to mph. Because it takes a lot of pressure to move the analog dial, they don't work below about 5 mph.

Secondly, they need to be fully sealed to work. Damage the pitot, put a crack in the hose or plug the hole and it won't work.

Personally, I maintained my unit and after 35 years it still worked 100% and agreed with the GPS. My old classic Lyman has a 69 year old speedo (hose replaced several times) and it still works fine.

Lots of naysayers that simply let the unit get broken.
