The prop that came on my boat that I just bought (86 Chris Craft Scorpion 196) is in pretty rough shape. I also think its not the correct pitch for the boat/motor. I can't find any sort of identifying info on the prop. Its a 3-blade aluminum prop. The specs for my motor says I should be at 4200-4400 at WOT, but I'm more at like 4800.

What prop should I get? I want a good hole shot and top-end speed isn't that important to me.

Thanks!
Chris

Lets start here. what type of outdrive do you have.....There will be a metal plate with your gearing or drive ratio on your outdrive post that back. It should read 1.51..1.50...1.62..1.79 or that type of combination

Ok never mind on the drive type..i actually looke at the full title..:D

Depending upon where you look, you will see rpm specs for your '86 5.0L(230hp) as 4000-4600, 4200-4600 , or even 4400-4800 rpm. I'd go with 4000-4600.

Since you desire hole shot, I'd say leave it alone, since it won't turn 4800 when towing a skier/tube.

That prop is stamped somewhere with dia/pitch. It's probably under the prop nut/washer(on the hub) where you can't see it without removing the nut/washer.

If you ever figure out the pitch on the current prop, you might put on a 4 blade of the same pitch. That'll pull down the rpm a little and provide even better acceleration.

Any suggestions for 4-blade props? I would assume I should get a stainless steel?

If you would post the gearing on your leg, that will streamline a few thing's. From there 3-4 blade questions can be explored.

A Solas Rubex 4 (aluminum)would do fine. But first you gotta find out the pitch of your prop. :)
