Hi,

I have a few switches on my 77 Carver with an OMC stern drive and was hoping someone could please help identify these. I've tried googling, but I haven't had much luck. I've tried tracing some of the wiring but I believe they terminate somewhere in the 5th dimension. I'm an experienced mechanic but this is my first boat so please pardon my noob ignorance!

First, I have no clue what aux volts vs. fuel volts are, what are the appropriate use for each setting?

Next, I have a push button and 2 rocker switches that are unmarked and I'm at a loss as to what they do. There's also a sliding lever next to the throttle:

Thanks again for any assistance!

Re: Unknown Switch identification

Hard to tell what someone else did to a boat when there are no labels or schematic. I would try each switch and see what it does, if it still works. And if that doesn't work, trace the wires. That would be the only way to know for sure. Not what you probably wanted to hear, but that is what I would do to find out what they were connected too and why...

Re: Unknown Switch identification

Assuming you're '77 is an electric shift stern drive, that "depth charge" lever on your throttle is the "Neutral Warm Up" lever. The electric shift engages the gears when you move the throttle, so that level let's you run the engine up in neutral.

EDIT: cross posted with Howard. "what he said."

The Carver company is still in business.
Maybe send them the specs, year and see if they might have an owners manual in their archives.

That volts switch? Might be to a volt gauge to read voltage to two different pieces of equipment?
You have an electric fuel pump?

Thanks Howard and Kogs, that helps out a great deal! The lever is sticking so I may have to unbind/lubricate it. I'll try retracing the rockers and push button again, they're not the trim or tilt as Ive located those. Ive found the critical stuff I need to get it in the water so Im not too worried about those. Thanks again!

Those others might be trim tabs if you have 'em. I would assume blowers and bilge pumps are on your dash somewhere near the lights, right?

Re: Unknown Switch identification

Do you have one voltage gauge on your dash and that switches what voltage you are monitoring?

That's correct, blower and bilge are on toggle switches on the console along with horn, anchor, etc. all the obvious stuff I would think of is marked.

Yes, one volt gauge, but when I switch to fuel it goes dead. I haven't put in the second battery yet and someone else with the same switch said it's for the #1 battery. But whats the point of seeing fuel and #1 battery voltage and the rest of the gauges on #2 battery?
