On my 89 Regal that has a Merc 4.3 and Alpha 1 with power stearing, I'm having a slight stearing problem. After the drive has been one position (either straight or turned) for a moment or two, I have to use quite a bit of force to get the wheel to turn. One it has started it will turn easily until I leave in one position again. The P/S resivour is full, and the stern drive is well greased, except for the lower pivot pin which has no grease fitting (which I find very odd) Does anybody have an idea as to what could be causing this?

Thanks

Re: Unusual problem

Wingnut,I always put plenty of grease on the lower pivot pin by hand. There are a few grease fittings behind the engine on the steering tube.Clean all the old grease first by covering the pin with penatrating oil and turning the drive or steering wheel from side to side wiping the old grease off the pin with each turn and reapplying the oil.after you have done this several times,it is time to grease it up.There is also a grease fitting at the top of the o/d bellhousing.Hopefully this will correct your problem. There is also a bleeder valve on the power steering cooler in case there is air in the system.
