I posted a thread about a month ago about a merc 25 that i came across. you guys advised that i should tear down the motor and rebuild it. So its all back together now. new gaskets, pistons, rings, bearings. compression on both cylinders is 115 psi. seems to be a tad bit low. I havent finished the wiring portion of the motor so i havent ran it yet. what do you guys think, is 115 psi going be good enough.

The motor should be fine at 115 # of compression if it has not been run as of yet. You will probably find that the compression will go up some after the motor has been run and the rings have wore more to the cylinder bores. Run it and have fun. JMO

Re: update from merc 25 locked up

Just wondering about how much it cost to do all that work? I have a 81 and if I had to rebuild it was wondering how much it would cost?

Thanks and good work!

After it has ran and the rings have seated I would expect the compression to go up.
