OKay, had the rig looked over. OK compression chk: OK Spark test : OK
Had the carbs cleaned and rebuilt. took the boat out, the boggin down problem solved, the high rpms at wot solved, still can't seem to get up on pad, and get a good speed going, only run at about 38 mphs, on this 17.5 foot fiberglass bass boat, the motor is a 115 hp mer 1976 model.

So with that being said, we took it to the lake, and wanted to do some tubing, with one or two light people on the boat, and a tuber it does okay, the less wieght on the boat the better the tow. I have noticed, that my cold start "nuetral throttle" lever doesn't seem to rev the motor up like it did when I first go the boat out of the shop, I think we accidently put the motor in gear while that lever was up, or lift the lever while the main throttle was in gauage, since then it doesn't seem to work properly. also I still think my spark advace is a little off, not sure how to tell, but I have played with the screw some.
My real questiong is concernign the Lower unit.
I notice thta after I got the boat out of the shop an drianed my l/u oil that some water, then some reall dark and murky oil came out, I changed to new oil, ran the boat for a while, then checked it again, the oil ws not new looking but it didnt' appear to have water, or metal fillings in it, it was kind of lemon pie in color, much more creamer and thicker that originaly put in. after I check it and let some of it drain out, the boat seem to run a little better when under heavy load. whats up with that?

Oh yeah I forgot, the top exhuast ports had some reall thick gooey gunk built up on them, I clean them out some what, and that could had been what inproved our performace with heavy loads, should I tray to break it down and clean more. The is the top ports whe the water coumes out also, but we where in a very clean lake lake quachita in arkansas.

Thanks,
THomas
