I know some of you have helped guide and support me on my efforts with my son. ThoughtI would do an update to fill you in what has been going on.

Two months ago I paid off a fine for him to keep him out of jail. He said he had a job and would pay me back. Yeah, right? Three weeks ago he called around midnight wanting to spend the night at the house. Keep in mind my wife is still afraid of him and his actions. Knowing if I did it would cause problems with my spouse. Plus if I did, the house would have been pilfered and things missing if I did. So I said sorry that I can't allow it. He hung up on me. The next day I saw him walking along the roadside. I kept on going since I was on a service call to one of my stores.

Since then, I haven't heard from him at all until last night. Said he had a job finally and had moved in with a girl. Then the next thing was that I was going to have a grandson. I'm like any parent that wishes to have lots of grandkids. I already have 5 and proud of each and every one of them.

With Carls news, I'm not too thrilled about it. He has been on physic drugs for a little over a year. He said he quit taking them last November, but it still makes me wonder about this child that is going to be brought into this world.

My oldest daughter got pregnant at 16 from a guy that was also on meds. My grandson is legally blind, bone problems, and other medical problems that were associated with the meds his dad had taken. SO I'm thinking this might be a problem for my son.

Well that is what he has been up to. Thought I would pass it on.

Darn, SS - I can understand how worrying this must be. On the positive side, at least you still have contact and communication with your son and therefore the way is open for you to have some good influence on your future grandchild's life. I hope it all results in a happy outcome for you and your family.

BTW, Dave's idea is a good one...

Dang, SS! Really sorry to hear that.

I can only imagine how I would feel in your spot, and it doesn't feel good. :(

It does remind me how thankful I am for my own children and grandbuddies.

Yeah SS, I was right with you from the start when you first posted about Carl.
We all knew you were in a very tough position. You were at a make or break situation 2-3 years ago.
Since you were in such a difficult situation it's understandable not all your actions or reactions were correct.
Good call on getting him out of your house away from your wife. Bad call on bailing him out again and letting him back on the street.

At this point I wouldn't be so conserned about birth defects in your future grandson. That's out of your control. What I'd be worried about is the likelyhood of shaken baby syndrome, torture and the physical/mental abuse the young mother and child are likely to endure.

My suggestion is to get a hold of the girls parents and give them a very clear headsup on the entire history and situation.
This would a least, hopefully, involve additional avenues, eyes, and harbors of safety for the innocent and nieve.
As a father of 3 girls I'd be appreciative that the father of trouble gave me a headsup and option to protect me and mine.

Re: Update on my son Carl

Funny you should mention fishing. Since I launched my boat on the 16th of April, been down there each weekend since. Haven't done much fishin, but just to be at the lake is a peace of mind for me.

When Carl spoke to me this time, he seemed to be more easy going. Hopefully he is growing up. Sadly he still shows no remorse for his actions last spring/summer. Another sad thing to say is that I don't miss him that much. Time will tell like it usually does.

Thanks.....SS

Skinnywater is right. Talk to the girls folks, just to give them a heads-up.

We recently took in a kid that was having problems at home. His step mother was afraid of him, he had behavior problems, and his life over there was really crappy. He was present when his mother shot her self in the head when he was a little kid, so he has some freaking baggage, you know? Anyhoo, sine he has been here, he has been great. He is happy, helps out around the house, works hard in school and started calling my wife mom. I hope Carl finds a situation that straightens him out too.

He is living about 60 miles away. On the subject of paying me back, I told him that actions speak louder than talking.

As for speaking to the girls parents, we are trying to get some info. We haven't met her and only know that his girl friend is expecting. I called his mom earlier to find out what she knows. She didn't even know where or what he is doing. I guess he has broken all ties with her. At least he is keeping in touch with me.

I've got to do an all night service call. It is about 5 miles from where my boat is. So I'm planning to go there after work, sleep, get up and fish, eat, fish some more and do that until Sunday. If someone shows up with some beer, I may drink a few also. :D

I dont want to continue ragging about this, Im really not trying to be a PITA. But maybe he would be better off in jail.
