Hi,
1987 48hp spl
Update on water problem.
Motor just had complete carb rebuild, new fuel pump and lines.
The motor runs flawless at all power ranges.
starts very nicely cold or warm and performs very well for a twenty year old motor.
Compression readings upper = 150 lower = 145
Based on the performance of motor and the strong compression readings I am hesitate to dissassemble the cylinder head for inspection of any leaks or damage.
Soooo.............. I dissassemble the exhaust cover for inspection. What I found is very confusing.
There is very little corrosion and the housing is fairly clean.
What I did find is on the upper cylinder exhaust port on its lower portion there is a very small (approx. 1/16 dia. hole) it appears to be a very clean round hole as if it were machined. not a rough type corrosion hole.
Is this normal,, is it suppose to be there and why ?
If not perhaps this is where the water is entering the lower cylinder.
I just don't know enough about these motors to determine this.
Has anyone seen or know a problem likle this or simular ?
I would very much like to save this motor as it has seved my well for many years.
Any Help or advice here is as always very much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards !!!!!
