Last weekend my brother's neighbor had mentioned that he had a boat that he was trying to sell, he was asking $500 for (the solid) boat, (not so solid)motor, and trailer. The boat is a late 70's early 80's Bomber fish and ski 18ft (I believe), it has a 3.0 liter 4 cylinder mercruiser alpha 1 setup on it (couldn't tell ya the horse power). The fiberglass hull is not a tri hull, it is a newer style hull. This neighbor told me that I could take the boat out and try to run it because it hasn't been ran in a while.
My brother and I took the boat to the lake and found out that the motor must be locked up. We had to fight the battery cables and connections in order to make it attempt to turn over, after all the cleaning etc etc all we got was a constant click when turning the key. I swapped batteries even though mine was charged and we still only got a click from the soleniod. So now I got a socket and ratchet and tried to turn the flywheel, which I'm not so sure if I should be able to budge the "flywheel/pully".
Other then the motor the hull does need some seats and buffing but should clean up well. What it comes down to is...... Once we told the neighbor that the motor was locked up (to the best of our knowledge) the neighbor talked about scrapping the boat out. So I went up to him today and asked what his bottom dollar would be on the boat, he said "$200". I figure I would purchase the boat next weekend (as discussed with the boat's owner). I figure I would try to get the motor freed up, or at worst part it out and maybe I'll have a much better trailer for my other bass boat. I'm not that fimiliar with I/Os
Is this boat worth the money/would you buy it?
What kind of flaws did those mercruisers have?
I imagine that if I did end up parting the motor out that I should make a nice profit just from parts like the outdrive correct?
