Updating controls.

Hello,

I have an 1975 Evinrude 40hp engine, model 40555C. I would like to update the control box for this motor. Can anyone tell me what boxes would be easy to go to? The one I have, not even sure what it is, is in poor condition and has no markings on it at all.

Any ideas on what I can use on that engine?

Re: Updating controls.

do you just have the 2 handle controller with the switch & Choke on the dash, or is everything all in one unit. or is it the single handle. with everything combined. check ebay ebaymotors, boat parts, johnson controls & evinrude controls. either will work.

What I have is the 2 handle unit. Choke and ignition switch on the dash. Pretty sure it is model 0381371. I would like to replace it and update it if possible. Just hoping you all had an idea what would work well.

Thanks

I think you could adapt a lot of the single lever type contols, but what you have has no electronics, so you have to decide if you want to stay with that or not. You will need to decide whether to keep the cables you have as well.

Take a look at the "product information" link here: http://www.teleflexmarine.com/enginecontrols-us/

I'm sure the folks at the Iboats marine store can assist if you find something that you like on the teleflex site.
