Hi All,

I have '86 270 Sundancer with Dual Mercruiser 262 4.3L engines.
I'd like to upgrade both 55A alternators to 100A or higher.
Can someone let me know the part number or which car has alternator with higher amps that will fit the engine.

Thanks.

Re: upgrading alternator for searay 1986 270 sundancer

I have purchased Duralast/12 Volts, 800 CCA marine battery. Total it will be 4 of them (2 for each side) My friend has suggested that it won't be enough for original alternators to charge them. Other than that, there is nothing special on the boat: powerful radio, fridge, electrical stove, lights. probably a TV(LCD)
I have found this alternator: http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-3609-...ine-alternator-mercruiser-1-wire-adr0334.aspx

will it work, or should I re-consider upgrading ?

That's perfect. I ran one of those for years without any problems and powered 3 stereo amplifiers with it. I only swapped in my current one after I added 6 more, and the DB Electrical unit was still working great. at the time.

Go for that unit and make sure to upgrade both the charging and ground wires to 6AWG marine grade cable. Use crimp on, tinned, marine grade ring terminals + shrink tubing.

Connectors: http://www.iboats.com/6AWG-5-16-Hea...5853583--session_id.719204351--view_id.164850

Look around for the marine cable.. iboats seems to only sell a minimum of 50' at a time of it.

I just purchased one of these alternators and am wondering how to wire it...I am planning on running 6 gauge wire from alternator to battery...but is that it? I have never used a "one-wire" alternator before...do I need a ground or does it ground through the post...and there is no sensing wire or anything correct?
Thanks
