I have a 17 foot deep V Tracker aluminum bow rider with a Johnson 90 hp. I was going camping recently and had a blow out on a bumpy stretch of highway. After getting home I removed the fenders and I saw that there was a metal brace that acts as a support for the fender and a step. It's ends were less than an inch from the tires. There were obvious rub marks on the remaining original tire. I cut back the support pieces and raised the fenders 2 inches with spacers to get more room around the tires. Would it be OK to put in stiffer springs with more leafs that would raise it up higher? Would I also have to upgrade the axle? I'd like a bit more clearance and weight carrying capacity as I put stuff in the boat while towing to go camping. Thanks.

Re: Upgrading springs

If you would like more weight capacity than you would need to upgrade the axle itself as well. What do you have now? 3500# or 5200#?? Who is the manufacturer?

What springs do you have already? Should be etched on the spring.

Re: Upgrading springs

Most mfgrs of boats/trailers frown on loading up the boat with outing supplies/camping gear and such. I think your best bet would be to figure out how to carry more of your weight in/on your tow vehicle. Not only does this put added strain on your trailer, it also puts added strain on the trailer/boat interface that may not be suitable for such causing damage to one or both.
