i am a newbie. Never even used a sewing machine before lol but I am a fast learner. I’ve done research and I think the best fit for me is going to be a old singer 15-91. I found one locally and they say it works just needs to be oiled and the foot is a little sensitive.
I bought an old deck boat and already ordered the vinyl for doing the seats. I think I can handle the job but what all am I going to need to order for this singer machine? Do I need a walker? Should I go ahead and order a new foot controller? Pretty much need to know what all I need to use this for what I am doing

btw I am doing a simple 2 color vinyl with piping trim in some areas. I am using 92 thread
Many help would be greatly appreciated

Start with cheap scrap fabric and learn to setup and rin the machine. There are 2 tension settings. One is obvious on front of machine. Other is on bobbin. When set right where the 2 threads cross will be in between the 2 layers of fabric. Add foot tension to the mix. Once you can stitch 2 pieces together try adding piping or zippers. Get some good practice on the cheap before wasting too much vinyl

I used a 110 needle. the tension setting was around 4. No need for a walker foot since this would be a different machine anyways. I replaced the lightbulb with led because it burned my vinyl. watch a couple sailrite videos on upholstery stuff. I used french seams on most of mine since it has a binding tape on the back for doubling up the seams

I'm no expert, but doing the same sort of project and learning a bunch about sewing machines.

I don't believe that the Singer 15-91 is a walking foot machine :noidea: The stitch length goes up to about 5mm. ( 5spi), which should be OK.

A Singer 111 or 211 would be a better machine for vinyl upholstery IMO.

Well they make a walking foot attatchment. They are cheap. Like $15. Didn’t know if I needed one or not

I'm not sure the walking foot attachments are all that effective, particularly with thicker/heavier fabrics, like upholstery vinyl.

You might be better with a machine that has a designed-in walking foot, even if you do not get a machine that also has needle/compound feed.
