upper main bearing

I have my 90 hp rude apart 1998 cross flow i figure since i have it apart i would replace my lower and upper crank bearings does anyone know how to remove the upper main bearing from the crank case head assembely? Or do you recommend leaving it alone and not replacing it?

Unless it's burnt blue or rusty, leave it alone. I think you'll find that it doesn't come as a separate item but rather is a combined assembly (head & Brg).

To remove, heat the aluminum housing with a hand help propane torch to expand the aluminum, allowing the steel bearing to be removed.

it is just that water got into the cylinder and got into the crank and ruster #3 and 4 crank journals so there was alot of surface rust in there but the bearing seems to turn freely with not alot of play in the bearings.

I'd do the seals (upper & lower mains), and leave the bearings alone if they spin and "feel" ok.

Are you saying the water (rust) is only on the crank on the #3 & 4 rod journals or are you saying there's water (rust) on the upper & lower bearing too?

i have replaced the crank and rods pistons bearings complete rebuild had block bored 20 over i replaced the lower crank bearing and was just wondering about the top bearing as i do see how it would come out and i dont want to spend 450 on a whole top crank kit.

what kind of shape is the top bearing in is it blue or rusted.
