I've got a 1973 115. 115393M.

I bought all new upper rod bearings and there not the same type as are in there. The old ones were caged with 1 slit in them. The new ones are oe part #395627. They have 2 flanged washers and 28 bearings. I installed them and there is side play so that the flange can walk to the outside and allow the bearings to ease out 1 at a time or many. Is that just the later style?

Re: Upper Rod Bearings

sparkroost..... #395627 is the new superceeded wrist pin bearing for your engine. Rest assured that the needle bearings will not fall out if you assemble them properly. The side supports have a raised flange. That raised flange of the support (washers/spacers) faces the needle bearings.

Yes, I have the bearings installed just as the diagram(your description has me a little confused. Say you have a washer, but then add another washer to that washer that has smaller O.D.. according to the picture the smaller O.D. goes towards the bearings.)

I wasn't saying that they could fall out as in fall out of the rod, but say 2 needles could walk out until it hits the flange and the rest could stay in the rod. The way the other were designed, all needles stay in the same rolling area and move with the cage.
