Hi Everyone,

Long-time viewer of these forums, first-time poster. My name is Cameron and I'm getting ready to purchase my second used boat. My first boat was a 1992 Bryant BB180 Bowrider - a solid boat from a great manufacturer (I just sold it yesterday). The boat I'm getting ready to purchase is a 1999 Rinker 272 powered by the 7.4L Mercruiser. As you'll see via this link: https://loz.craigslist.org/boa/6147919627.html - the seller (which is a dealer) talks about some compression issue and says that he thinks that there might be some engine "blow-by," but that the compression is now back to normal (even after a cold test). What are your thoughts here? Any red flags? I have very little mechanical knowledge, but if it's the rings - I'm wondering how I diagnose / replace before I purchase the boat. Any and all feedback is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,

Cam

Buy nothing without a survey and a on-water test for atleast a 1/2 hour . You want a cylinder balance test, a leakdown test and a compression test.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... Follow BD's advice,.... The quote above equals a new motor,.... rings ain't a simple swap,....
