I am looking at a '85 CC Scorpion 213 (21' center console, T-top, 175 Hp outboard)The boat is appears in good shape. Mostly cosmetics that some good cleaning, waxing, and some minor parts replacement will fix. Has been used in the salt. Does anyone have any experince with this model of Chris craft. Can I assume based on the CC name that the boat has been designed and built well?
Thanks
SilverBob

Re: Used Chris Craft Scorpion 213

can't speak specifically about that model, but i have the larger 313 with 2 200hp outboards and its a great boat. haven't had any stress cracks and i've pushed it a few times in lake erie which has a rep for getting bad at times. my biggest problem is in some of the below floor areas- the battery support has rotted away and i've had to fix that. as i said a great boat!

Re: Used Chris Craft Scorpion 213

I tested the boat before buying it and it ran well. Went ahead and bought it. It's been out once before we started to clean it up. It has a 175 hp and does between 26 and 30 mph by GPS at about 4000rpm depending on head wind and so forth. Seems to top out at 35-36 mph. Not totally sure about these rpms as the gauges and electrical needed replacing. The goal is to be complete by Thankgiving nearly done with the electrical system which is the last thing. I agree with you that the boat seems to be built well. Hoping to be on the water soon.

Re: Used Chris Craft Scorpion 213

I meant to ask a couple of more questions, if you don't mind. BTW, had the same problem with my battery location and fiberglassed in a replacement board that the batteries sit on.

A couple of questions about your 313 assuming that my 213 is just a smaller version. 1) My batteries are located on the port stern locker. Is that the correct factory location? and 2)I have two live well aerators, one near the live well at the bow and the other in the bilge at the stern. Not sure how they work. I tried running both before starting on replacing wiring and switches. Neither has an inlet below the waterline, but both have outlets above the waterline. I filled the stern live well with water from a hose. Turning on the aerator, the aerator pump was running but I could'nt see anything happening. There were multiple problems with cracks in the circulating hose, wiring, etc. so I did not pursue figuring out the live well situation. If you have the same arrangement, how do these aerators work? Do they simply recirculate and aerate the water? Do they pump out the wells too? Looking at the hose arrangement, I suspect that the previous owners may have rerouted some things. Hope you can shed some light on this for me. Thanks for responding.
Bob

Re: Used Chris Craft Scorpion 213

the 313 has two bait/fish wells, both in the cocpit sole.

the forward one has a drain pump only.

the forward one has an intake pump and a discharge pump wired to one selector switch so that you either pump lake/sea water in or "old" water out.

dumb question, but is the one in your stern possibly a bilge pump?

Re: Used Chris Craft Scorpion 213

Thanks for the reply. No, both aerator units are identical. There is a bilge pump and it has its own discharge. It seems silly to me to have bait wells and aerators without an inlet.

Which side of your boat is the inlet for the bait well located? (I wonder if the original on my boat might have been eliminated?)
And where are your batteries located?
Regards
Bob
