Used gas can help

I have an Attwood model 8872 gas can (discontinued) that came with my used boat when I bought it. I am trying to save a little cash by not buying a new gas can but the current tank that I have won't take the Attwood universal sprayless connector fitting that came with the Attwood universal fuel line assembly I bought at Academy.

This assembly will be connecting to a 50's model Elgin 5.5 outboard. I looked around for a while last night and could not figure out just what I needed to do, or what made the most sense. The only thing I bought for the old gas can was a $15 gas cap, and a new gas can is pretty expensive. My boat is a 1978 12' aluminum Starcraft so I'm trying to limit the amount I spend.

Do I have to have a primer bulb? It appears the previous owner did not have one, though, I can't be sure of that. Also, where can I buy just a new universal pick up tube that would fit the Attwood universal fuel line assembly fittings? I couldn't find that particular piece last night?

Any hard earned wisdom, or general insight would be helpful.

Thanks.

Some of the 50's models motors used dual line Pressurized Cans like this...

But you can convert the motor to a fuel pump too.

Thanks guys. I didn't realize that my post had received any responses. I think I have it figured out now, though. Thanks again for the help.
