Used Motor question

Hello,
I purchased a boat and a Johnson 4 hp two cylinder two cycle motor was included in the deal. The model # is J4BRHCTA and the serial # is E5728488.

Since the motor was just a bonus I didn't want to "Look a gift horse in the mouth" and took it not knowing much of anything about it.

It did run (in a bucket) and started within a few pulls. It looks good on the outside.

My questions to the experts frequenting this forum are:

How do I know how viable this motor is? Should I take it to a Johnson dealer and have them take a look at it or put it on the water and give it a test?

Can the age be determined by the serial #?

Are manuals/parts still available?

How much should I be willing to spend to make it run again before I'm wasting my money?

Thanks!!
Mo
