Using 6v deep cycles to start

I'm buying new golf cart batteries for my trailer this year and am wondering about using my old ones in my boat. How will they handle the starting load from a 115 hp Evinrude?

I'm thinking that the starter doesn't pull enough current to damage a deep cycle and these batteries still have some life to them while the one in my boat now doesn't. Plus I would like to have the extra capacity for the electronics and downriggers etc.

It appears you are powering downriggers and other stuff from the start battery? In that case, I would use the golf car batteries for the accessory load, keep whatever you have for a start battery and use a battery selector switch, VSR or isolator to separate the two systems yet allow the engine to charge them all.

[colour=blue]What ST said.

Question - why does your trailer need golf cart batteries?

It's a travel trailer (or Caravan as you folks down under call them). 8)

I bought a used 400 cu in DIESEL tractor several years ago which had one size 27 deep cycle (only) battery as the starting battery.

I couldn't believe the performance of a battery that was not "supposed to" be capable of such high current.

If they'll start that tractor, they'll surely start your OB engine.
