will it work if i use a nova 11 31-8786 solid state module on my 5hp 1956 gale engine? if so would it be a standard or a reversed polarity hook-up?

still no fire on top cyl M/W 5hp

still no fire on top cyl M/W 5hp

installed a solid state module on my GG9002B M/W and still no fire. I am at my wits end, don't know where to go next, new plug wire, new coil, cleaned and reset points all on the top cyl, changed bottom cyl. plug wire, changed condensers from one side to the other, lightly sanded mag & even put a new key in the crankshaft. Have plenty of compression, just no fire.
How about you F_R you have any suggestions. on a couple of my previous post I explained why I had to put my old crank in this power head but can't see where that would cause this problem. I never touched the cam follower or anything else but the thing of it all is that it did start after i installed the cam from my old PH. I decided to put new coil wires on and that is when the problems started. Have even put the old wires back on, still no fire on the one cyl....Any help appreciated guys.....

Read this very imformative report on those modules: The Antique Outboard Motor Club Forums - Nova Module Update

My advice to you is to put it back together the way it is supposed to be. Then do some orderly troubleshooting. That 1956 motor has the OMC Universal Magneto, made for many years and famous for reliability. Something obviously is wrong, but hard to guess what. It isn't the magnets. Motors made since WWII have Alnico magnets which never lose their magnetism unless grossly abused like in a fire or something.

quite confusing post ollie....the modules ive used on one motor have no need for points or condensors, but i did have to reverse the wires from what the instructions said. you may need to move the coil(s) out a few thou to get things to fire. jmo

well bondo I read where someone much higher than a moderator wrote that if you don't get a response after a few days START ANOTHER which i did. as for the first thread here I was asking before I installed the module the next thread was AFTER I installed the module.
Thanks for your concerns anyway......Just trying to get the ole dude running again.

You are correct F_R that is a very informative report on the modules. Even an old dummy like myself understood what it was explaining, very well put. I did take the module out and even put the old powerhead back together and still no fire on the top cyl. At that point i set all components aside and will start back on it next spring, too cool out in the garage to fool with it now anyway. At this point i want to thank all the members who have responded to my inquiries on trying to get the motor going again, appreciate. Catch ya all next spring.
