When the boat is out of the water will the motor flush hose hookup be sufficient enough to cool the engine? Or are rabbit ears a necessity?? I thought I remember someone saying that you can damage the impellor just using the hose flush hookup. Please let me know.

Happy Holidays
MM

Hi Sea Craft,

If you have a new engine that has the flush hookup, my understanding is that it is intended for flush only without the engine running. If you want to run your motor, you will need to use the muffs.

Yeah, you wil destroy your impeller in a matter of seconds without the lubrication of water, I have seen it done, you can even harm it just by cranking without water, like if you are doing a compression test, deffinetely use the muffs. Good Luck.

I quit using muffs a while back, i got me a great big plastic tub about half the size of an oil barrel which i then immerse the lower unit into.

You were right, I roasted the impellor. No big deal because I was going to change it anyway. I did however melt some of the housing which prevented water from coming up to the power head. My mechanic said that even with the engine off the tell tale should still **** with the pressure from the ear muffs.

Thanks,
MM
