I have a 1953 Utah Home Made Boat; Model:Wizard. I am trying to find out what the largest engine is that I can run and if any one makes covers for them. Also does anybody have information on this manufacturer. Thanks

Re: Utah Home Made Boats

Are you serious? I would think you'd have to get a Utah Home Made cover for that boat, and maybe check the Utah Home Made owner's manual about powering it. You think maybe the boat was Home Made and that someone had a plate made up for it? Is the serial # 1 ?

Just giving you some flack, Welcome to the board! Try the homebuilders guide by the USCG for powering recommendations HERE (click on safety standards for backyard boatbuilding. You may be best off looking for a semi-custom or universal cover for your boat. They are sold right here at iboats and plenty of other places.

Good luck!

Sounds odd and strange, but yes there was at one time a company called Utah Home Made Boats, the boating registration code is(UTZ). They are very nice and sturdy boats small though but great for fishing. I just don't want to over power it and end up doing a lot of fiberglass repair.

How big is this boat? Is there a motor on it now and if so how does it perform?

The Boat is a 12ft. The motor that came with it is a sears 12hp, but is not currently running. Looking at the USCG Page I probably can run at least 15hp. I still need to take some more measurments though to be sure.

That sounds pretty similar to an old fishing setup I have. 1960 Shell Lake. I have a 10hp and it's not quite enough for me. Mine's 14' and really heavy fiberglass. I'd like to have a 15 on that boat but nothing more.
