1996 112 HP Evinrude. I know when measuring piston to block clearance you do it at the skirt. Do I need to be concerned about the wear / clearance measured just above the top ring land on th episton? with keystone rings in this motor it seems this should have a maximum clearance allowed? PLease educate me.

Thanks

If you are rebuilding measure the bore first,,,if its .003 over spec it needs bored. The pistons are slightly tapered with top being smaller than skirt. What are your measurement's????

Largest bore is only .0025 over spec of 3.500. all are within .0015 of being round as well. Skirt clearances are measuring from .005 to .0075. But clearance above the top ring land approach .020 - .025.

Thanks

It measuring out of round should be bored as tolerances will increase with heat also pistons are out of spec. Just bore it .020 as you need new pistons anyway, both you and the engine will be happy this way. If you decide just to try pistons use the Wisecos as they work good in sloppy holes...(that sounds dirty)
