I ordered a manual, but it has not come in yet..still waiting. I got the bearing housing out and the 2 snap rings, got reverse gear out, now I can see that my problem is that my clutch dog is worn..the reverse gear where the clutch dog mates up is worn slightly..I have posted pics..I need to know if the reverse gear is ok to use. I plan on replacing the bearing carrier seal and the clutch dog.
Is there anything that I am missing here? and how do I get the clutch dog out???
Thanks Sparkie

Re: V-6 Gearcase rebuild

You have to remove the pinion nut, pinion gear, drive shaft, shift shaft and slide the shifter body/prop shaft out. Then remove the pin retainer spring, pin, and then the dog.....

should have a manual :)

cheers....

Re: V-6 Gearcase rebuild

i read somewhere that you use a long handle ratchet to loosen the pinion nut...no way to get a ratchet in there with the prop shaft still in the way....so I am guessing a wrench??? I saw some sort of special tool somewhere..but it was expensive...you ought to see the puller I made for the bearing carrier...lol
worked like a champ for under $20. I may make a post about it one day.
Thanks Walt

Use a open end wrench on the pinion nut and put a crescent wrench on the flat of the drive-shaft where the impeller resided. Wrap a strip of shim stock on the shaft so you won't bruise it with the crescent.

cheers...:)
