v/p aq271 starter...rebuild or replace?

my starter gave out and wanted advice if i should rebuild or replace the unit. Im pretty sure replacement brushes are available but what about the rotor? its a bit rusted and the contacts have build up on them. Can i clean up the contacts with fine grit sandpaper, replace the brushes and be done with it?

You need to replace the starter. Go to a marine warehouse and buy a new (not rebuilt) starter. Yours got water in it and damaged it.

Re: my previous answer. Remember it is against the law to put on an automotive starter so make sure you get a marine one.

absolutely rebuild the starter after market ones are junk!
