I need to overhaul my 88' 88spl I bought a few weeks back due to excessive wear on #3 cylinder. The sleeve that was installed on #1 cylinder seems to have been installed too deep as its sits .015 lower than the block and has trouble with blowing the headgasket. I was wondering it if ok/common to mill upto .015 off the block or if I should look for another block to use. Currently mine is standard bore with a sleeve in #1. I'm wondering what years/size cylinder blocks I could use with my engine If I decided to find a good reuseable block to base my overhaul on. I may have access to a 81' 115hp for very cheap that I could also use if the block will work.

Re: V4 crossflow block interchange

Any thoughts on this?

I just finished tearing down the power head and it also looks like I'll need a crank and 1 rod as there is pitting one off the crank rod journals and as far as I know there is no oversized roller bearings avalible. So will a 81' 115hp powerhead work if I dress it with all my 88spl stuff? (the 81' 115 is basically free, It has a trashed lower unit and I need to drive 60 miles and pull it off the 30' barge which is still sitting in the water) What if I used all the 115hp stuff and bolted my electronics on it? is the 115 crank rated any more powerful then my 90hp prop rated?
