Hello yall,
i was wondering if anyone who has some experience with these engine could give a liitle input on my situation. i have a VE100SLESB 100 hp evinrude outboard. it is a flatback v4 crossflow engine. my problems started when i bought the engine and it had off compression.the 2 cylinders on the right(2,4) had 90psi and the 2 left cylinders(1,3) had 80 and 70psi.
the egine would not go over 3000 rpm and i could not go over 10 mph on the water. i have a 18' wellcraft 190ccf boat. boat came with engine from the factory. i originally thought there was an electrical problem and after replacing the power pack ,spark plugs and wires,,testing coils at load, new rectifier regulator and checking timing i was stumped. i decided to re-ring the 2 cylinder that had low compression.
when i tore the engine apart and was checking the cylinder bore ID, i noticed that the #1 cylinder had a pit/hole in the bottom of the cylinder almost at the very bottom.it is almost a perfect circle and didnt know what to make of it.
the question i have is .does this cylinder have a hole in it from factory or has something cause this. second question is since the hole is all the way at the bottom way past the rings, will this affect compression or the way the engine runs. and third could i get this hole welded shut and just have the cylinder re-bored to fix the problmem or should i jst leave it alone.
thankyou again for any help or input.
