I am new to this sight but love all the information here. My question to you guys is what is the difference between the looper and the crossflow? Is one better than the other? I would also like to know what my 86 110 is. Thanks.

Re: V4 Evinrude

Howdy, BKool. Crossflow is the two stroke scavenging method you learned about in high school physics. . .the fresh charge comes in one side, is deflected up by a crown on the piston, and shoves the burned gasses out the other side. Loop scavenging brings the fresh charge in from the sides, pointing away from the exhaust ports. The two or more charges then merge, loop over the top of the combustion chamber and force the burned gasses out.

Loop scavenging is far more efficient and makes more power. It burns less fuel and is cheaper to manufacture, too.

I don't remember what year OMC started building loopers in the V4s.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

110's are crossflows. And a very good motor. The first V4 and V8 loopers were in 1985 with the V6's to follow in 1986.

Good luck!

Re: V4 Evinrude

I have a J110TLCUR 1986. I have inherited the boat and the motor seems to run fine. BK, Have you learned anything you may want to pass on about this motor that you may want to pass on?
