Howdy, BKool. Crossflow is the two stroke scavenging method you learned about in high school physics. . .the fresh charge comes in one side, is deflected up by a crown on the piston, and shoves the burned gasses out the other side. Loop scavenging brings the fresh charge in from the sides, pointing away from the exhaust ports. The two or more charges then merge, loop over the top of the combustion chamber and force the burned gasses out.<br /><br />Loop scavenging is far more efficient and makes more power. It burns less fuel and is cheaper to manufacture, too.<br /><br />I don't remember what year OMC started building loopers in the V4s.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB
