V6 lower unit prop shaft

I have this v6 lower unit but the end of the propshaft splines look strange. Anyone see this before? What could cause it? Will it work ok? Thanks

You can chase the threads, and clean up the splines with a file. Not sure what caused it, perhaps ill fitting prop splines and an ill fitting prop nut?

Will it work, probably....
