I own a 1988 Reinell 181 SS with an OMC 4.3L V6 engine and OMC outdrive. The motor mounts, one on each side of engine, are falling through the fiberglass mounting pads on the boat. What can be done to resupport this engine. Is the drive from the engine to stern drive sensitive to being raised up to resupport the engine?

You've got Big Problems.......
Go on over to the Project Boats board....
Sounds like you've got Major Wood ROT..... The outdrive Doesn't like a Sagging Engine... Raising it back Up will Help Alot....

I'll second that. You'll either be doing a 'quick fix' that won't last long or a major repair that will.

Check out www.rotdoctor.com and look in the section on fiberglass boat problems, it sounds like you have to replace your engine stringers (wood in side of the fiberglass). It is a big project reqiring a fair amount of skill at least the wood, glass and resin are not expensive!!

Pull the engine, grind out the engine bed stringers, and glass in new engine beds without using wood, make them about a half inch thick of solid fiberglass and bolt the engine mounts on.... works great I promise. you can reach your hand inside and put the nut and washer on instead of using lags........basicly they are an up side down U shape about 4 inches wide and what ever hight you require..........
