I'm rebuilding a 2002 mercury 90 hp 2 stroke. On the side of the engine block there is a couple of lines with a brass check valve. I didn't realize it was a check valve and I'm not sure which direction it should go. The lines connect to a nipple connection coming out of the side of the block and are located behind all the electronics. Any help would be appreciated.

They are rubber lines with a brass check valve in the middle.

OT481533. It is a round brass check valve. It comes off a nipple one the aid if the block through a 3" rubber line to a round brass thing with an arrow on the side to another 3" line to a brass nipple. I just don't know which direction the arrow should go. I have a manual but I can't find it I the factory service manual.

I'm assuming because of the arrow it must be a check valve.

And I am assuming that you didn't read my question in post #3, concerning item 27.

The reason you should confirm if it is this one or not is to eliminate it as this one prevents fuel from entering the engine oil system through the outlet side of the oil pump.

Gerry's info should be heeded as there should be 3 check valves on that motor and they have a prepose for being there. If it is not the one he has pointed out then go to Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - Bleed System - 75/90 H.P. 65 JET (3 CYLINDER)
and see if these are the ones you are asking about, items #6 of the diagram.

That's it. I love you man. I have been looking for that diagram. I would have guessed it going the other direction.
