So, my 71 Ford 302....

Ayuh,..... Merc dropped Ford power in the late '70s,... OMC, 'n Volvo did the same in the early '90s,...

It too, is a dead horse to me, parts are tougher to find, 'n much more expensive than Chevy power,.....

As I've been sayin',.....
Buy yerself a rotten donor boat, with a runnin' driveline,...
Mid-'80s will get ya an Alpha drive,....
Alpha 1, Gen.II came out in '91,...

A 3.0l will move yer boat, a bigger motor will just do the same, only with more power,....

Find someone else in the same boat as you, and sell HIM your 302 and outdrive as a unit w all the controls

The boat is sitting, everything looks there and presumed workable.......the gimbal bearing is out, was all I heard from previous owner, for now, I will continue with the dinosaur....until it fails, but I like to keep things running......it's a knack!!!! However, I have a couple places I can piliage and plunder for other running systems........

I've worked on a lot of things; houses, cars, atvs,&dirtbikes, dumptrucks, farm machinery, and personal watercrafts, since I was little.....my dad and I would pour fiberglass into the water intakes of our wetbikes, so the the water would rush faster.....
And all I have to say about an outdrive that has sat, whether it be at the dock, or on the trailer, is that she's rusted tight....probably because it was hardly used in forty years, and never pulled out to properly grease and replace some imporant pieces...I don't have a garage, nor a set of torches......215e is off, hanging upside down with wooden shims....does heating really work, or fill it up with the PB creep? Also, gimbal bearing, is missing the inner pieces, so nothing to grab with a slide hammer....though some units can be turned sideways and taken out, or drove out from the inside of boat...but who knows, because I can't find material that states how on this Merc sterndrive......I will get torches, and try Boatinfo.com when I get home. Emptied two 77 gallon tanks, then lifted and lowered out by my lonesome last weekend...I have my ways.......they are metal, and would make perfect truck bed gas pumps......motor is next, to turn upside down.....plumbing removed.....should I use pex, or something else.....I have all pumps, and a 2 gallon water heater.....

I'll use just about anything, if I see it laying there.....
