So, due to the death of my father, my mother has a 2000 3.3hp Johnson outboard. I want it for up at my cottage, but I want to pay her a fair value of what its worth, even though she just wants me to take it.

Problem is, I have no idea what its worth. Its mint shape, and meticulously maintained.

Any suggestions as to value, or where I could find a fair value.

thanks,

NADA boats say $225-255 which i think is low, for open market. but she would not get that from a dealer. it could be a compromise figure since mom wants to give it to you, and you want to buy it.

FishHog, sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I would think 400-500dollars would be a good value as long as your father took good care of things.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. I was thinking $500ish, but I know I'll have to fight with her to take it, thats why I kind of wanted something to show her that it is what it is worth.

Mom doesn't want to sell it, FishHog. It was your Dad's and she wants you to have it. Don't take that away from her. Women, and Moms in particular, are sentimental about that sort of thing.

If you feel that you need to compensate your Dad's estate for it, buy your Mom a sentimental gift that will remind her of her years with him and raising you.
