I am wondering what my outboard is worth, 90hp Force, 1990 (i think), 906X90C, oh yeah better not forget the cross fire fuel induction, that is a selling point. I am not actually selling the motor but am curious none the less.
Well it's going to be worth less than the comparable Johnson/Evinrude/Mercury/Yamaha, etc due to the lack of full parts support from the manufacturer. If it was mine and I was selling, I'd probably list it for $800.
Crossfire fuel induction really sounds like they did something. In reality they did nothing and it is all marketing hype. It is only a selling point to someone who does not know much about outboards. The engine is a dirt simple, standard old school design crossflow engine.
I picked up a 1989 Force 150 on Ebay with less than 60 hours on the engine since new......for $800. Sort of doubted it until I went to pick it up. Estate sale, the man was a lawyer with 3 boats. One for salt water fishing, one for going to Canada fresh water fishing, and a jet sled. This one was the 'back up motor' he bought with the boat for fresh water fishing. Used it on one 3 week trip to test it. (He and his son always took along a back up motor for their 3 to 6 week trips up into Canada...) I figure it went through 90% depreciation or more. His other spare engines with similar use were also on stands in the shop.....one Evinrude went for 11,000.00! I figure I can wear it out in 10 or 20 years and when it throws a rod.....no big loss. A good value for me.
