Hi guys. Couple questions. Wanting to know what one can expect to pay for these outboards for buying and selling purposes.

1975 50hp Johnson short shaft I believe. New waterpump, new plugs, fuel pump, rebuilt carb, lower end and new prop are from a newer model I believe but could be wrong cuz all the bolts line up but the lower end is a different color then the rest of the motor. Has controls.

Pro's
-everything needing replaced was replaced

Con's
-Needs new steering and throttle cables
-Control Unit has seen better days but seems to work (mounts on the left side of a console... I thought they were for the right....)

1972 Evinrude 18hp. New fuel pump, new fuel lines, new kill button, new prop, new plugs, lower end all redone with seals and new oil, new water pump. Tiller motor but has little brackets for control cables.

Pro's
Everything replaced

Con's
-Carb needs to be rebuilt because the idle isn't great and wants to die if you don't keep giving it a tiny bit of throttle

What are they worth as is?

Re: Value?

Depends on the location for the 50 here you would be looking at around a $350-$500 motor,

For the 18 $200-$350

Re: Value?

You don't say where you are at but watching my local graiglist the prices are all over the board. There is a 198? 40hp listed for $475.00 and it's blownup! another 198? 50hp that looks as though it has a 1973 cowling on it that the guy wants $1000.00 for it. Good Luck with that.
Another 55hp Evinfude that is still mounted on a pontoon with controls and tank $750.00 also good luck.

It's springtime and people think they are selling gold.

Right now I have a 1983 60hp 2 cylinder that is on my Alumacraft that I paid $600.00 for and drove 5 hrs to get it. It's running the boat very well. I also have a 1975 50hp that runs like a champ. Pumps plenty of water, shfts smooth and starts with a simple turn of the key. Only thing is is it's not pretty. But would run it all day long w/o a worry. Paid $100.00 for it.
I also have a 1987 50hp VRO in the garage that I'm working on. Paid $300.00 for that one only because it had a working Power Tilt n Trim that I wanted for my 60hp. The price I paid is also the going price for a nice working PTT.

Flippin outboard motors isn't the same as the shows you see flippin houses. Very little room for markup

Re: Value?

Isn't Cal. passing more and more anti 2cycle restrictions? If so value just dropped.

Re: Value?

Hey I didn't vote for them! haha Anyway back to boat motors. There are a lot of 60's and 70's ones people ask over a grand for... I was starting to think I was crazy thinking they arnt worth that. But after looking at what people are selling for what in other states, everyone here wants to much for everything.

Remember you are in California where everything costs more! All I can sugjest is to watch the local market and price accordingly! If people want to pay $1000.00 for a $300.00 engine well then I say it's thier money and they can spend it anywhich way they chose!

I'm from the midwest and am a little more thrifty than that. Won't see me taking out a 20 year note to pay for a boat that I might get to use 7 monts out of the year,
