I have 2002 bryant 198 br with 5.0L alpha 1. I have noticed when parkes at beach for 1hr more it will not start. Confirmed spark with spark tester. I believe it is vapor locked due to ethanol in fuel. I have seen the update kits @ 500.00. My thoughts are to wire fuel pump relay to an ground that opens after engine starts and then ecm can take over. Any thoughts.

Assuming your motor is a MPI (serial number are best)

Running the pump by an auxiliary means will turn the pump ON but don't think this will stop VL. Installing a boost pump was something that Merc tried to fix the VL issue, but if you look in later years, this to was no longer being installed.

The best method to stop VL is rerouting the return line back to the tank. Other manufactures have done this such as Indmar

Another fix on the water is to have a rag and small screw driver, and safety glasses Place rag at the end of the schrader valve and press in on it when key is turned ON. When vapor is expelled the motor can then be started

TBI ...injected. my understanding is the pump should produce 9-12 lbs . This should be enough to bypass regulator.. hope to purge vapor lock back to tank?

Alldodge i see the benefit of rerouting return line. Is this the same set up for the TBI units? Also the tank in in front of this unit. Not sure how accessible the tank is.

TBI would be done same way

The regulator would be at least 30 psi (don't know serial number) so even 20 psi won't help if your talking boost pump
