Vapor-locked?

I have a 1975 85hp v4 johnson and for months i had probs trying to get it to start. I would crank it over for a while and it wouldnt hit and then it would start turning over like a half turn at a time. I always noticed when this happened that the starter was getting very hot and after I let it cool for a good part of the day it would crank fine. well anyway, I have had it running fine for three weeks. Everytime I go out to start it it was hitting almost routinely. I figured out I was flooding it before. Well I was out on the lake the other day and it flooded and after cranking a while the starter did the same stuff. Is the starter supposed to do that half turn thing?....It wasnt even that hot this time. It almost acts like the engine is getting partially vapor-locked.

Re: Vapor-locked?

What it sounds like jake is a bad connection to the starter, a low battery, or the starter is in need of new brushes. Might even be the solenoid going south.

Start at the battery. Make sure it's got a full charge in it. Clean the battery cable ends as well as the post's on the battery.

Make sure the connections at the slenoid are clean and tight as well as the connection at the starter.

If it starts doing that again, take a screw driver and jump the two large terminals on the solenoid. If the starter spins good, might be time for a new solenoid.
