variable trolling speed - slow enough?

I am buying a 2009 170 Starcraft (1100 lbs). I was going to get a kicker since I troll for walleyes. The dealer is saying I won't have to because the 90hp Yamaha with variable trolling speed will troll down to less than 1/2 mph on this boat (17' aluminum). I need to go this speed or less for deep bottom bouncing.

Is this possible? tia
