I pride myself in trying to keep things up as best I can, but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I changed the oil on my Ranger yesterday, I jacked the drivers side up and placed a jackstand under it to gain access to the drain plug and noticed that when I did, the drivers side wheel seemed to move a bit when I lifted it off the ground. So being currious about why that might be, I grabbed the tire and wiggled it, Wow, its loser than it should be. Wheel bearing?????????????? Yep, so what turned out to be just an oil change turned into new wheel bearings and seals and rotors and brakes. I just repacked the bearings about 30,000 miles ago but I did notice that the truck has been following the ruts in the road a bit more than usual. Allways something!

So, when was the last time you checked your wheel bearings????????????????????

Wife's car all original at 150k miles except for Left Rear, it started making noise a few months ago.

Mitsubishi Rant:
So instead of just getting a bearing set, you have to buy the entire bolt on hub with the other side of the ABS sensor .. $150

Same as dolluper. I've never replaced a wheel bearing except on a boat trailer.

I havnt replaced many either, but these were the original bearings with 175,000 miles on them. Actually the front bearings on the wifes RX/7 have 292,000 miles on them.

Sent my Hyundai Excel to the wreckers with 330,000km on it - original front wheel bearings and brake rotors! (you had to have the dealer press the rotor and bearing off and I hate the local dealer so every brake job I would put the car in 5th gear at idle and grind the rotor clean with my 4.5" angle grinder while it spun.... it never mic'd undersize...)

Vehicle Maintenance. HMMMM, that's a no-go for any American named product.

Studies prove that people WILL maintain a FOREIGN product, but not an American one. The studies used the same vehicle built with two nameplates-one foreign, one domestic. It was amazing. I always knew it, after working in a dual nameplate dealership.

Anyway, I ONLY use dealer service for my domestic product(s). I live in AZ, thus I use the severe service part of my maintenance schedule. The owners manual is the least read book, in the world, except the Bible.

My vehicles do not: break, have unexpected failures, or any issues.

Maintenance costs are a very large part of my replacement vehicle buying considerations. Domestic vehicle maintenance is by far cheaper, in my experience.

Only vehicle other than the boat trailer that needed bearings was the 11 year old Ford festiva.
It was making noises. Fixed pretty quick. Wish I still had that car. 41 mpg all the time no matter how you drove it. Of couse it had no power so you were always petal to the metal but it got you there. :D

I did some real goofy things when I was poor... operated that car for <5 cents/km including fuel, depreciation and insurance... I wish i did have video to show you... I was thin back then..
I got out of the poorhouse driving that Hyundai.

You want redneck... I towed a twin engine seadoo challenger boat with that hyundai once about 60 miles. I had a very heavy duty homebuilt receiver hitch on the car... turned some heads that day.

Re: Vehicle maintanence???????

Replaced both wheel bearing on the wife's car and learned alot from it. The bearing has to be compress back into the slot, did not have the equipment to do but the local college have an automotive department and I took it over there and they help me put it back in. Other than that it was pretty easy.
