Thanks for everyones help in the diagnosis. My boat is powered with 1989 Pleasurecraft I/O's. The clutch in the Starboard 1500 Series Velvet drive is slipping. Does anyone know where I can find a repair manual to replace the clutch? Are they all pretty much the same? Is this something that can be done without special tools?

Thanks Chuck

Re: Velvet Drive Clutch Replace?

Of course no one has noticed that this transmission is strictly a PCM transmission. Velvet Drive dealers or suppliers can't get the parts for this one, neither can they furnish manuals. You can only find parts and manuals thru PCM. Been there and done that several years back. Actually, they're pretty good folks to deal with. Be glad you don't have one of their newer transmissions. Might check with them for rebuilt ones. Last time I checked, they were a bunch cheaper than I could rebuild one for.

I am with capt ken. alot of the PCM velvet drives were made by borg warner specifically for PCM and PCM will be the only supplier. they are not hard to repair but they do require painstaking attention to detail.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Velvet Drive Clutch Replace?

Looks like Elpaso was right. That is my transmission. Perhaps PCM went with a stock velvet trans for the I/O. It looks fairly simple to tear down. Of course getting it back togeather so that it works is another matter. Lots of parts marking I would say
