Veneering a Dashboard

I'm making a new dashboard for my boat. I have a very wavy wood (bubinga) and I tried gluing it down with veneer glue and 10 cinder blocks for pressure but I still got rippling in the wood. Any idea how to get rid of those ripples? I don't want to buy a veneer press that costs $350.

Thanks!

Re: Veneering a Dashboard

How large is the piece of wood you are trying to veneer? You will at a minimum needs some clamps, and something very rigid you can place on top of the veneer to apply even pressure. It also depends a lot on the type of glue you use. I don't know much about the veneer glues and holding up in the weather, but I do know some that get to that tack dry stage quickly. You would also use a hard rubber veneer roller to smooth out the veneer before applying clamps. Tell me some more about your setup.

I ended up just getting a piece of paper backed veneer so it's all flat and easy to apply. Thanks for the help though!
